Batman is a fictional character created by the artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger. A comic book superhero, appearing in publications by DC Comics. Originally known as 'The Bat-Man' and is still referred to at times as 'The Batman' the character first appeared in Detective Comics #27 (May 1939) and has since gone on to appear in his own comic title Batman and became a founding member of the Justice League of America. In the stories he is additionally known as "The Caped Crusader", "The Dark Knight", 'The Guardian of Gotham' and "The World's Greatest Detective," among other titles.
Bruce is the son of Thomas and Martha Wayne. When he was young, his parents were murdered by Joe Chill. He began his crimefighting career at the age of 21.
In his civilian guise as Bruce Wayne, he runs the company Wayne Tech, which has offices in Metropolis, Gotham City and Philadelphia. He is also involved with the Wayne Foundation, in which his father worked.
